D.C Everest performing arts presents ‘Mamma Mia!’. The director decided to do this musical because on July 20 of this year has gone in movie theaters ‘Mamma Mia 2- Here We Go Again!’.

Mamma Mia is a jukebox musical based on a book by Catherine Johnson…

It is about 20 year old, named Sophie Sheridan (Reagan Kettner), who is getting married. She invites to the wedding three men that were old friends of her mother Donna Sheridan (Sarah Giordano). She discovers that one of them is her father. Then Donna meets the three men. All of her old feelings come bubbling to the surface.

Here starts the famous song ‘Mamma Mia’. After Sophie has a nightmare Sophie awakens and is confronted by Donna who thinks she wants to cancel the wedding. But Sophie is determined to not repeat what she sees as her mother’s mistake: raising a child without a father. While her marriage by the end of the musical doesn’t follow the original plot decides to ‘escape’ with her boyfriend, leaving the island to go on a new adventure together. But then one of the men asked to the teenage girl’s mom to marry him and she says yes.

DC Everest’s musical is a reproduction very similar to the film.

The story divides itself into two acts (with a break in the middle).

“Very good show”, said Stina Vansvik, a girl from Sweden. Before the show she said, “I’m really looking forward to it, because Mamma Mia songs are by ABBA that are a Sweden music band”.        Active between 1972 and 1982, the Swedish pop/dance group is one of the most popular international groups of all the time.

The show singers of Mamma Mia D.C. Everest Musical are very impressive because they look like the real actors of the actual film. They worked for this show almost every day for two months.

Delilah Haefner who was part of the ensemble decided to participate in Mamma Mia because she loves theater so much, but she also knows that the drama program at DCE is great. So, she had no doubt they would put together a good show.

“The rehearsals were usually stressful”, she said. There were definitely moments where they had lots of fun, but they had moments of stress too.

When they were getting closer to show dates they extended rehearsals, starting right after school going on until 9:00 or 10:00 p.m., most people didn’t have much time to complete homework, and most of them couldn’t work.

Haefner said some of the dances and other scenes they did were quite intense. It was physically very draining, but the payoff of show night almost always worth it. ”There’s nothing like a full house giving a standing ovation for all the hard work you’ve done” she said.

At the end there are some funny moments, like the scene before the wedding that there is a song and a dance by two characters recreating the ceremony, but the rest of the musical is structured like the movie. The show actually had the honor of completely selling out the theater three nights in a row!
